Before replacing, resetting, or trading in your iPhone

Do not erase or trade in the old iPhone until work sign-in has been tested on the new one.

  1. Update the old phone and Microsoft Authenticator.
  2. If the phone is company-owned or managed, contact IT before erasing, resetting, or trading it in. For a personally owned phone, confirm you know your Apple Account credentials and that iCloud backup is current.
  3. Install Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, and Authenticator on the new iPhone from the App Store.
  4. Test company email, Teams, OneDrive, and an Authenticator-protected sign-in on the new phone.
  5. Keep the old phone available until all tests pass. Restored work or school accounts in Authenticator must be registered again before they can approve sign-ins.
  6. Only then erase or trade in the old phone.

If the old phone is unavailable or registration fails, contact IT rather than repeatedly attempting sign-in.
